Students have access to the latest scientific technology, generally housed in shared facility rooms dedicated to specialised equipment. Collaborations between research groups are encouraged by a friendly work environment, exposing staff and students to a wide range of expertise and knowledge. In addition the location of Prince Henry’s at Monash Medical Centre provides a clinical setting for human based research projects. All students are provided with desk and storage space in designated student workstations, which are fully equipped with computing facilities including scanners, printers and specialised software.

We currently have 35 students studying towards Honours, Masters and Ph.D. degrees. We actively involve students in the life of the Institute and hold weekly seminars, including journal club and works in progress forums, to keep people updated on current research conducted within the Institute. We also have weekly presentations from invited speakers from other research institutes keeping us up to date with current exciting research from Australia and the rest of the world.

Students have the opportunity to present their research annually at Student Presentation Day, providing experience of scientific presentation and a chance to follow the progress of other students. All Ph.D. students are additionally given the opportunity to present their work at scientific meetings in their field of interest, including one international conference, usually in the final year of research. Students take this opportunity to visit internationally renowned laboratories where they may obtain postdoctoral positions as well as providing the student with the knowledge and some experience of the possible research directions he or she may wish to consider.
