Thank You Day 2007 at Prince Henry's Institute
Local community members and VIPs were greeted by medical researchers last week at the Prince Henry’s Institute in Clayton. They joined thousands of Australians nationwide in signing a “Thank You” Day card celebrating the difference that Australian medical researchers make to our lives. “Thank You” Day is a national initiative of Research Australia and Prince Henry’s Institute is proud to be a collaborative partner.
Mr Hong Lim MP, State Member for Clayton, was one of several community representatives to sign the “Thank You” Day card. Also visiting to meet researchers and tour the laboratories was ex Olympic aerial skier, State Member for Forrest Hill, Ms Kirstie Marshall MP, who described the research of Prince Henry’s Institute as “a wonderful job by wonderful people”.
Many others who signed the card had been personally touched by diseases such as breast cancer; an area of research that Prince Henry’s Institute is actively working in to develop new tests and treatments. One lady signed the card with a heart-felt message “Thank you for your research into breast cancer. You have changed my life”. This lady is just 1 of the 1 in 11 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 75.
Senior Researcher, Dr Margaret Jones said “Research into breast cancer at Prince Henry’s Institute is focused on developing targeted treatments. Prince Henry’s has a vision for the future where we will be able to treat cancer by the targeting and blocking of hormones that support cancer growth“.
This research is supported by the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium and the National Health and Medical Research Council.
