Prince Henry's Institute says "Thank You"

Staff at Prince Henry’s Institute (PHI) showed their appreciation for medical research during the Melbourne launch of Research Australia’s annual “Thank You” Day campaign recently.

"Thank You" Day celebrates the country’s health and medical research achievements by providing Australians with the opportunity to send a ‘hero-gram’ to researchers whose work has touched their lives.

Each message of thanks is sent to the relevant researchers to encourage and inspire. It is also used in Research Australia's advocacy activities in raising awareness about research and the need for increased funding.

A giant “Thank You” card tours the country during the month long campaign collecting the signatures of well-known Australians, leading researchers and children and adults who have benefited from medical research.

PHI Chief Operating Officer Dr Jane Glatz and Deputy Director Professor Jock Findlay attended special signing events at Melbourne’s Bionic Ear Institute and Deakin University in Geelong.

Dr Glatz said the “Thank You” Day campaign was a chance for members of the public to express their gratitude to medical researchers across Australia.

“It is also a unique opportunity for researchers to say thank you to the public and funding bodies for their support,” she said.

Last year more than 450,000 messages were received by 155 research organisations. A sample of these messages was personally delivered to Prime Minister John Howard to highlight the overwhelming community support for medical research.

You can send a "Thank You" message until Tuesday 14 November by visiting www.thankyouday.org or send an SMS to 0428THANKS.
