Prince Henry's Deputy Director reappointed to NHMRC

Deputy Director Prince Henry’s Institute, Professor Jock Findlay AM, has been reappointed to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for the next three years, from 1 July 2006 to 30 June 2009.

Professor Findlay was one of only a few members of the previous council to retain his position and will continue as Chairman of the Embryo Research Licensing Committee.

The newly appointed council includes 19 of Australia’s most experienced medical and health professionals, chaired by director of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research Professor Michael Good.

Head of the Female Reproductive Group at Prince Henry’s, Professor Findlay is a world-renowned reproductive biologist, with more than 30 years’ experience in reproductive health research.

He is chair of the Infertility Treatment Authority of Victoria, a member of the scientific committee and board member of the Victorian Breast Cancer Consortium Inc. Professor Findlay also served as chair of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group, Department of Reproductive Health and Research at the World Health Organisaiton in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1998-2003.

Most recently, he was awarded the prestigious 2006 Dale Medal from the UK Society for Endocrinology.

Professor Findlay said he was honoured to be reappointed to the NHMRC.

“My appointment provides an opportunity to continue the good work that the Licensing Committee started during the last Council triennium,” he said.
