Staff at Prince Henry’s Institute (PHI) joined members of the public to celebrate the country’s health and medical research achievements as part of Research Australia’s annual “Thank You” Day campaign recently.
"Thank You" Day provides Australians with the opportunity to send a ‘hero-gram’ to researchers whose work has touched their lives. A giant “Thank You” card tours the country during the month long campaign collecting the signatures of well-known Australians, leading researchers and children and adults who have benefited from medical research.
Institute staff and scientists showed their appreciation for research by attending card signing events in Melbourne and Geelong, as well as hosting a public display in Monash Medical Centre, Clayton.
Hundreds of hospital staff and visitors took the opportunity to sign the PHI “Thank You” Day card, leaving touching messages of praise and gratitude to medical researchers across Australia.
The card will be flown to Sydney to be presented at the “Thank You” Day Awards Dinner on 14 November.
PHI Chief Operating Officer Dr Jane Glatz said she was overwhelmed by the show of community support for the PHI “Thank You” Day stall.
“The people coming through the doors of Monash Medical Centre are representative of those who benefit from health and medical research everyday. We were moved by their personal stories of what brought them to the hospital and how their hopes lie in the promise of medical research,” she said.
You can send a "Thank You" message until Tuesday 14 November by visiting www.thankyouday.org or send an SMS to 0428THANKS.
