Appointment to Australian Academy of Science

Whilst Director of Prince Henry’s Institute, Professor Evan Simpson, was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science for his achievements in the field of hormone research on 30 April 2006.

Appointment to the Academy honours a career that has significantly advanced, and continues to advance, medical research.

Professor Simpson is recognised as the world leader in the area of oestrogen biosynthesis. Over the last 25 years, his research has had a major impact in a variety of fields, including embryology, endocrinology, reproduction, tumour biology, and human physiology and pathophysiology.

As Head of the Sex Hormones in Action Group at Prince Henry’s, his current work is directed toward discovering new and better therapies for breast cancer prevention and treatment.

Professor Simpson was one of 18 new Fellows elected to the Academy, including researchers from Australian universities, CSIRO and medical research institutions.
