Graduate Excellence Awards
The PHI Graduate Excellence Awards provide additional financial support for outstanding students undertaking their PhD training.
Successful applicants receive a $5,000 p.a. stipend on top of their existing tax exempt scholarship.
For 2010, the Institute is anticipating making three awards which will commence in 2011; one of these awards has been sponsored by Smart Salary.
Eligibility and Application
-
These scholarships are available to students newly arrived at PHI and that have recently enrolled in a postgraduate research degree (typically a PhD). Applicants should read the Guidelines to confirm their eligibility.
-
The Graduate Excellence Award is contingent upon the applicant obtaining an Australian Postgraduate Award, NHMRC Postgraduate Research Scholarship or equivalent award to be administered by PHI. Continued receipt of this award requires satisfactory performance and enrolment in a postgraduate course at an accredited university.
-
Postgraduate students at PHI, subject to approval, may be enrolled through any Australian university. For more information about how to commence PhD studies please refer to your university’s website for enrolment details
-
This award is not offered concurrently with other enhancement awards of a similar value. Where the student is already in receipt of an award that enhances their scholarship, award of the PHI Graduate Excellence Award may be deferred to other years.
-
Applicants must identify a project and discuss this with their potential PHI supervisor before applying. A list of PhD projects is available in the PHI Student Handbook or students may contact the head of a PHI research group in their area of interest to discuss possible projects.
-
A referee’s report is required and applicants must ensure that their referee forwards a completed Referee Report Form to the address provided.
-
A selection panel will assess the applications and awarded will be made on the basis of the applicant's academic excellence and research potential. The selection panel aims to reach a decision by the end of November, and applicants will be notified in December.
- Applicants should consult the Guidelines below for further details about eligibility and the application process.
