Profile
Dr Matthiesson completed her PhD thesis at PHI, investigating the hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis. Her work provided important insights into the spermatogenic processes that are responsive to hormones in men, the modes of action of different contraceptive formulations, and the regulation of an important Leydig cell factor, INSL3, in men. Her PhD was awarded in 2006.
Research Interests
Dr Matthiesson maintains a strong clinical focus in both reproductive and general endocrinology. Her ongoing research includes further projects examining the process of spermatogenesis and the WHO / CONRAD sponsored male contraceptive trial.
Expertise
Translational research in male reproductive endocrinology.
Recent Achievements
Description of the hormonal profiles of new male contraceptive formulations
Description of the testicular targets of male hormonal contraception
