Cancer Drug Discovery Laboratory

Full-Time 12 month position - Immediate Start

Are you passionate about cancer cell biology? The Cancer Drug Discovery Laboratory is seeking the assistance of an experienced and enthusiasitic research assistant, with proven practical biochemistry and molecular biology skills, to assist with ongoing research to identify pathways involved in breast cancer progression.

Qualifications: Honours degree in biological sciences

Skills and Experience

Demonstrated experience and skills in the following:

  • Molecular Biology techniques including DNA,RNA preparation, qPCR and cloning
  • Cell culture, transfections 
  • Animal work including collection and preparation of tissue for culture and expression analysis
  • Protein analysis Western blotting, SDS-PAGE
  • Immunofluorescence/Immunohistochemistry

PERSONAL ASSISTANT

Sex Determination and Gonadal Development & Brain and Gender Laboratories

Part-Time Role (0.3 FTE) – immediate start

Closing Date: 8 am, 3 February 2012

Position ID: 2012-VH-01 (PA)

Prince Henry's Institute's Sex Determination and Gonadal Development and Brain and Gender laboratories are seeking an efficient and organised Personal Assistant with proven experience within a medical research environment. You will provide general administrative support to the Laboratory Head and senior ressearch officers within the group, including local and international travel arrangements, organising and managing meetings and assiting with ethics and grant submissions.

Qualifications: A BSc (hons) in biology/biomedical sciences or similar is essential

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Experience producing a range of documents including letters, memos, agendas and minutes
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Internet and email.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated time-management skills and the ability to prioritise own workload
  • Knowledge and capacity to organise all aspects of detailed national and international travel itineraries

Desirable

  • Knowledge of medical research industry

GRANTS OFFICER

Full-Time Role - Immediate Start

Prince Henry's Institute is seeking a highly skilled Grants Officer to coordinate the review, submission, reporting and management of external competitive research funding applications. You will have an outstanding attention to detail and thrive on handling multiple projects. As part of a small team in a not-for-profit environment, your enthusiasm, innovation and self-motivation will be valued and appreciated. A creative approach to problem solving and an empathetic approach will assist you being successful in this role.

Qualifications: Post-Graduate degree in Medical Science or related field

Skills/Knowledge

  • Previous experience in grant funded laboratory and/or clinical research environment

  • Excellent  writing skills

  • Experience in preparing, reviewing and editing research grant proposals

  • Knowledge of NHRMC grant related processes including RGMS software

  • Excellent organising ability, and capacity to manage projects on time

Prince Henry's Institute's Ovarian Cancer Biomarkers Laboratory is seeking the assistance of a highly skilled and motivated Research Assistant with proven practical biochemistry and molecular biology skills to solve research problems. 

Qualifications: Honours degree in Biological Sciences 

Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding and solid experience in a laboratory environment including the following:

  • MALDI TOF Mass spectrometry for protein analysis
  • Handling and processing clinical samples
  • General laboratory maintenance
  • HPLC
  • Biostatistics/bioinformatics
